HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 c2W
23. Mr. Gurden

asked the Minister of Labour how many training places there were in Government training centres at the end of 1965; and when further in creases in the number of such places are expected to take place.

Mr. Thornton

On 13th December, 1965, there were 5,754 training places in Government Training Centres. I estimate that there will be about 7,000 places by the end of this year and about 8,000 by the end of 1967.

24. Mr. Gurden

asked the Minister of Labour in how many cases, and to what extent, the development or expansion of training centres has been curtailed or restricted because of trade union unwillingness to allow the employment as skilled men of persons retrained in such centres.

Mr. Thornton

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. and learned Member for Bebington (Mr. Howe) on 14th February.
