HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 cc38-9W
Mr. Perry

asked the Postmaster-General what consultations have taken place with the potential users of the giro service; and what are the current assessments of its prospects.

Mr. Benn

The Post Office has had discussions with a good many trade associations and companies covering altogether a fair cross-section of potential business users of the Giro service, including local authorities; public utilities; mail order firms; insurance companies; hire purchase firms; retailers; and manufacturers. I am confident from these most encouraging discussions that the attraction of Giro as a cheap and speedy service for the transfer of money will result in the service being used by a wide range of institutions, business firms and their customers.
