HC Deb 09 February 1966 vol 724 cc103-4W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to attract back into active medical practice Scottish women doctors who retired to marry and raise children, and having done so are now available to return to practice; and if he plans refresher courses for them.

Mr. Ross

I have been in touch with the various interests about measures which might be adopted to encourage married women doctors to return to practice.

Mr. Ross

I have no power to control farm rents, which are settled by agreement or arbitration. I am circulating with the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing average increases in Scotland over the past five years.

The table is as follows:

Glasgow University hopes to begin a refresher course specially designed for such doctors in the spring and in other universities some of the existing refresher courses for general practitioners can readily be adapted to this purpose.
