HC Deb 02 February 1966 vol 723 c246W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now announce his plans for the raising of the school leaving age, especially insofar as those plans involve the provision of additional school buildings and teachers.

Mr. Ross

Building programme allocations from 1967 will be calculated to cover the essential additional accommodation. With the expansion of higher education the number of teachers is expected to increase substantially by 1970, but if we are to avoid a major shortage I am satisfied that even with maximum recruitment from existing sources we shall need new sources of supply. I shall continue to take all practicable steps to that end.
