HC Deb 02 February 1966 vol 723 c237W
Mr. Alison

asked the Postmaster-General why a parcel posted in Leeds on 23rd November, 1965, did not reach an address in Cornwall until 1st December, 1965; why a parcel posted in Leeds on 2nd December, 1965, did not reach Cornwall until 6th December, 1965; and what action he proposes to take to improve the service, and hence commercial prospects in the north of England.

Mr. Joseph Slater

I am sorry that these parcels were delayed while in transit. In collaboration with British Railways we are trying to improve the parcel service from Leeds to Cornwall by tightening up the transferring arrangements at the key station through which the mails pass. We are also looking into the possibility of using through vans to reduce transfer work.
