asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the rôle, programme of construction and cost of the new Type 82 guided missile destroyers.

As to the rôle of the Type 82, I have nothing to add to what I told the hon. and gallant Member on 27th April. The programme of construction has not yet been settled. It is too early to forecast the cost.—[Vol. 727, c. 686–7.]
