HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c333W
89. Mr. Carmichael

asked the Minister of Transport what representations she has had from the Clyde port authorities and the Clyde pilots following the announcement of the Government's proposal to declare Loch Long and the Gare Loch a Queen's Harbour.

Mr. Swingler

The Clyde Port Authority have made representations to my right hon. Friend; the Clyde Pilotage Authority and the United Kingdom Pilots' Association have made representations to my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade. All three bodies fear that the provisions of the Order in Council which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence proposes should be made under the Dockyard Ports Regulation Act, 1865, would interfere with commercial shipping in the Clyde. The matter is at the moment the subject of inter-departmental discussion.
