HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 cc312-3W
63. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the subsistence and other allowances to justices of the peace in Scotland and take steps to make them more consistent with the cost of travelling today.

Mr. Willis

Travelling expenses and subsistence allowance at the rates applicable to members of local authorities are paid where a justice does duty more than three miles from his usual place of residence. When the economic situation permits, the Government intend to remove the three-mile condition and to introduce a financial loss allowance.
