HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c327W
Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his estimate of the total expenditure on Her Majesty's Ship "Britannia" during 1966; what are the main items; and what are his reasons for continuing this expenditure in the period of severe restraint.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

£480,800 in financial year 1966–67. The main items are pay, allowances and messing of the crew, maintenance stores, fuel oil and repairs. H.M.S. "Britannia" will continue to be required for ceremonial occasions for Royal visits, and it is therefore intended to retain her in commission during 1967.
