HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 cc326-7W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence by what standards of education and industrial training he judges young army entrants in allocating them to spheres of training; and whether he takes into consideration their future careers on leaving Her Majesty's Forces in addition to their usefulness while serving in the forces.

Mr. Reynolds

Allocation to a trade depends on aptitude tests rather than educational qualifications, as well as on the recruit's own choice and the needs of the Army.

Army tradesmen are well qualified for subsequent civilian employment; and Resettlement Courses are provided for non-tradesmen before they leave the Service.
