HC Deb 21 December 1966 vol 738 c334W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will set up a committee of inquiry into the future rôle of Great Britain's docks, in view of possible entry into the Common Market, its terms of reference to include the siting of specialised container berths within easy reach of the Continent.

Mr. Swingler

The Government are fully aware of the vital part which our ports have to play in our economic development and of the importance, in this context, of making proper provision for the container revolution. In the circumstances we see no need for the committee suggested by my hon. Friend.
