§ Mrs. Joyce Butlerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will seek powers to restrict the use of chimes by ice-cream vans.
§ Mr. MacCollSection 2 of the Noise Abatement Act, 1960 already prohibits the operation of chimes on ice-cream vans outside the hours 12 noon to 7 p.m. and their operation between these hours in such a manner as to give reasonable cause for annoyance. Local authorities are responsible forenforcement. My right hon. Friend thinks that more experience of these provisions is needed before further restrictions are considered.
