HC Deb 04 August 1966 vol 733 c174W
Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Labour what was the total spent by his Department on advertising in the past year; and by what sum he intends to reduce it in the current year as a result of the present economic situation.

Mr. Gunter

The sum spent by my Department in the financial year 1965–66 on direct advertising was about £18,500, mainly for the recruitment of staff for Government Training Centres and, through the Central Office of Information, for information purposes about £17,500 making a total of about £36,000. Expenditure for staff recruitment in the current year will continue at approximately the same level but expenditure for information purposes is likely to be exceeded because of the need to publicise the arrangements for making payments to employers after the enactment of the Selective Employment Payments Bill.
