§ Mr. Tom FraserRoad safety has been a major consideration in the formulation of my Department's design standards, with which highway improvement schemes submitted by local authorities are required to comply in order to qualify for grant. The contribution that individual schemes can make to the improvement of road safety is an important element in the choice of the classified road programme.
