HC Deb 07 May 1965 vol 711 c224W
Mr. Molloy

asked the Minister of Transport how many depots are in present use by British Road Services; what is the number in each region; and how many are proposed to be closed, in Great Britain and in each region, respectively.

Mr. Tom Fraser

The Transport Holding Company estimates that the road haulage companies at present owned or controlled by it use some 500 depôts from which services start or finish or from which collection and delivery services are operated. No regional analysis is readily available. Changes are made as necessary to cope with differing types of traffic, traffic streams, seasonal and other fluctuations, and other factors. It is not therefore possible to say how many depôts will be opened or closed in the future.
