HC Deb 04 May 1965 vol 711 cc161-2W
Mr. Box

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will state, giving the mileage in respect of each, those motorways or lengths of motorway for which no line had yet been proposed, a draft scheme had been published, a scheme had been made, tenders had been invited, a contract had been placed, which were under construction, and which were in use, respectively, on 30th April.

Mr. James Griffiths

The following lengths of motorway were under construction for completion next year:

M.4 Newport Bypass 6.7 miles
M.4 Coldra Crick 9.1 miles
M.4 Crick—Newhouse 2.75 miles
A.48 (M) Port Talbot Bypass 4.4 miles

No lengths of motorway were at any of the other stages referred to, but a review of the whole Welsh road programme is now in hand and I hope to make an announcement about this later this year.

The table excludes the section of M.4 at present under construction from New-house to the Monmouthshire/Gloucestershire boundary, a distance of 0.9 miles, which remains the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
