HC Deb 04 May 1965 vol 711 cc135-6W
45. Sir D. Renton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to discover what sums are estimated to have been remitted to India, Pakistan and the West Indies, respectively, by immigrants in the United Kingdom during the last 12 months for which figures are available.

Mr. MacDermot

Remittances abroad by immigrants are included indistinguish- ably with other donations, gifts and legacies in the item "private transfers" in the invisible account of the U.K. balance of payments. Movements of funds to the sterling area is free and I see no reason for an investigation.
