§ Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Minister of Health what study he has made of the reports by the Birmingham Medical Officer of Health, sent to him by the right hon. Member for Sutton Coldfield, about the varying quality of drugs intended for injections; and what action he is taking.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonA full report on the investigation to which the Medical Officer of Health for Birmingham refers was sent to my Department in March, 1964. The report undoubtedly showed that there was scope for improving methods of quality control. Food and drugs authorities already have powers under the Food and Drugs Act, 1955, enabling them to test samples of drugs and take proceedings in suitable cases if deficiencies are found. The need for changes in the present law is being considered in the course of the current review of medicines legislation.
