HC Deb 02 March 1965 vol 707 c201W
39. Sir D. Renton

asked the Minister of Technology whether he is aware of the importance of finding an economic and practical method of removing salt from sea-water on a large scale so as to make it drinkable; what research is taking place for this purpose; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Cousins

Yes. Various lines of research are in progress, in Government laboratories, in industry and in universities. They are mainly concerned with improvement of flash distillation techniques.

I am considering plans for increasing the scale of effort on desalination research and hope to make a statement fairly soon.
