HC Deb 17 June 1965 vol 714 cc96-7W
Sir G. de Freitas

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the Far East is the only area to which exports of footwear declined in both quantity and value in 1964 compared with 1963; and to what reason he attributes the decline.

Mr. Redhead

Exports of footwear of all kinds to the Far East fell in value by less than£15,000 in 1964 compared with 1963. In the same period there were larger falls in shipments to a few other markets, but our total exports increased by more than£1 million.

I am not in a position to give reasons for the slight decline in exports to the Far East, particularly as figures are not yet available showing what changes took place in the total imports of the area, and in the imports from other supplying countries.
