§ Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science in what respects the primary school at Waltham Abbey, Essex, fails to conform to standards accepted by his Department.
§ Mr. CroslandI understand from the Essex authority that the school stands on a sub-standard site and is deficient in playground space. It occupies both permanent and temporary buildings and the teaching accommodation in the permanent buildings is deficient by 21 per cent. Half of the lavatory accommodation is out of doors. A project to provide new buildings for the junior pupils is included in the 1966–67 major building programme.
