§ 47. Mr. Julius Silvermanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will direct that the findings of the Machent Police Tribunal, on a number of cases relating to Birmingham police officers, shall be published; and when he proposes to announce what action is to be taken thereon.
§ Sir F. SoskiceThe Chief Constable of Birmingham, at whose request Superintendent Machent carried out an investigation into alleged irregularities by certain Birmingham police officers, has submitted a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions. It would not be proper for me to say any more until the Director has decided what action, if any, he will take, but it has never been the practice to publish reports which might lead to the institution of criminal proceedings.
