asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the number of capital and non-capital murders known by the police to have been committed between 22nd December, 1964, and 21st January, 1965, between 22nd December, 1963, and 21st January, 1964, and in the average calendar month during the 12 months ended 21st December, 1964.

The number of deaths known to the police in England and Wales from 22nd December, 1964, to 21st January, 1965, and initially recorded as capital and non-capital murders were 4 and 17 respectively; these figures include cases which may be found not to be murder. The corresponding figures for the period 22nd December, 1963, to 21st January, 1964, were 2 and 14. The corresponding average monthly figures for the 12 months ended 21st December. 1964, were approximately 1.3 and 19.
