§ 53. Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will seek to amend the law relating to the carriage of dangerous substances by road and extend the present list of dangerous substances.
§ Mr. George ThomasIt is desirable to extend the scope of existing regulations, but we must have regard to the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods, which covers more than 800 substances and is expected to be ratified this year. Discussions will be held shortly with the various interests concerned on the way in which it is to be implemented in respect of international traffic; and we shall at the same time discuss the improvement of the existing regulations on the carriage of dangerous goods and the marking of road vehicles in this country.
