HL Deb 16 December 1965 vol 271 c870WA
LORD CLITHEROE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they intend to take to encourage an increase of air services between Lancashire and Yorkshire on the one hand, and London and European cities on the other; and whether Her Majesty's Government consider that British European Airways and other airlines appreciate adequately the great need for these services in view of the vast population of these two counties.

LORD SHACKLETON

The provision of such services is, subject to licensing requirements, a matter for the commercial judgment and initiative of the airlines.

The Government would welcome more new services, domestic and overseas, operated from provincial centres, and is confident that the airlines, whether publicly or privately owned, are keeping the potentialities of Lancashire and Yorkshire much in mind.

House adjourned at twenty-four minutes past five o'clock.
