asked the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he had with the National Union of Mineworkers on the effect on the Welsh economy prior to the decision to close certain mines in South Wales.

With my hon. Friends the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Power and the Under-Secretary of State, Welsh Office, I met representatives of the South Wales Area of the National Union of Mineworkers in Cardiff on 12th October, and had a very full and frank discussion with them.
