HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 c246W
81. Captain Orr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will exempt Northern Ireland from his restrictions on public capital expenditure and from the operations of the proposed licensing control.

Mr. Callaghan

I would think it right that Northern Ireland should be exempt to the same extent as the development districts in Great Britain, and I understand that the Northern Ireland Government whose responsibility this is share this view. The provision to exempt development districts from licensing control will also be relevant to Northern Ireland.

Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent Northern Ireland will be exempt from his measures of 27th July.

Mr. Callaghan

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave today to the hon. Member for Down, South (Captain Orr).

Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the effect of his measures of 27th July on the public sector expenditure proposals contained in the Wilson Report on Northern Ireland.

Mr. Callaghan

I understand that progress towards implementation of the Wilson Report on Northern Ireland will not be affected by the measures I announced on 27th July.
