asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will extend the exemptions granted from his recent financial measures to areas which have consistently suffered from depopulation, as well as to development areas.

We have the problems of these areas very much in mind, but I do not think that they can be dealt with in the particular manner mentioned by the hon. Member.
