HC Deb 28 April 1965 vol 711 c62W
90. Commander Courtney

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give an assessment of the cost effectiveness of the last full year of duty by the officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer (S) Reserve at an estimated cost to the Exchequer of £4,000; and whether, in view of this, he will revise his decision to abolish this section of the naval reserves.

Mr. Mayhew

As I told the hon. Member for Maidstone (Mr. John Wells) on 22nd February, we cannot now foresee a useful rôle for the R.N.V.S.R. in a future war. The question of cost effectiveness therefore does not arise.
