§ Mr. Solomonsasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance where and under what circumstances war disability pensions are payable in Commonwealth and in foreign countries; and what prior notice has to be given by the pensioner.
§ Miss HerbisonSubject to the normal exchange control procedure for remittances during temporary visits to countries outside the sterling area, war pensions are payable anywhere in the world. No prior notice has to be given when a pensioner goes abroad, but it is helpful if the Ministry can be told as soon as possible so that continuity of payment may be maintained.
§ Mr. Solomonsasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance under what circumstances commutation of war disability pensions is allowed.
§ Miss HerbisonThe practice of allowing commutation of war disablement pensions ceased in 1939. I share the view of my predecessors that it would not be to the advantage of pensioners to revive it.
