HC Deb 12 April 1965 vol 710 c123W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the need for training non-manual workers for industry in the Carlisle area; and what proposals he has for doing this.

Mr. Marsh

Non-manual workers in need of training are eligible for consideration under the Ministry's Vocational Training Scheme. They and other workers in Carlisle should benefit in due course from the increase in training facilities which it is one purpose of the Industrial Training Act to provide.

Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour if he will select Carlisle as a suitable centre in the North-West to establish a Government training centre.

Mr. Marsh

No. We do not think that the Carlisle area would support a centre of economic size.
