§ 69. Mr. John Hyndasked the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will take the initiative in an early approach to the United States and Russian Governments, with a view to securing the opening of a conference for the conclusion of a final peace treaty with Germany.
§ Mr. George ThomsonHer Majesty's Government stand by the commitment in Article 7 of the 1954 Relations Convention to work for a peace settlement for the whole of Germany, freely negotiated between Germany and her former enemies. Hitherto, the Soviet Government have rejected all Western proposals. But we shall keep in close touch with our Allies and take any opportunity which arises for a new Western initiative.
