HC Deb 16 June 1964 vol 696 cc160-1W
Mr. Thornton

asked the Postmaster-General to what extent in the siting and resiting of sub-post offices he takes into account such factors as the number of elderly people in the area concerned, the movement of population, the building of new estates and the busy traffic routes to be covered; and what particular factors ruled out the request of the hon. Member for Farnworth for a new sub-post office in the Whittle Street area of Walkden.

Mr. Mawby

All the factors the hon. Member mentions are taken into account in each instance in which they are relevant, along with considerations such as the proximity of other post offices and the ease, or otherwise, with which they can be reached. As there are already two post offices reasonably accessible for people in the Whittle Street area, we should not have been justified in opening another one.
