§ Sir K. JosephI have no information about the number of applications which have been made for relief or how such applications have been dealt with. This is a matter which has been entrusted by Parliament to the discretion of local authorities. I make no payments direct to ratepayers. But I shall be asking local authorities later in the summer how much relief they have granted in order that I may make to them the first payments of Exchequer grant under Section 5 of the Act.
