Mr. Compton Carrasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he has decided to proceed with the proposals for the expansion of Stevenage New Town.
§ Sir K. JosephI intend to take the next step in the statutory procedure—the460W publication of a draft designation amendment order—shortly. The proposed extension area will be the same as that on which I have consulted the local authorities. A period will be allowed for formal objections and a public local inquiry held by an independent inspector will be held in the late autumn of this year which will enable differing opinions on the matter to be fully tested.
