HC Deb 17 February 1964 vol 689 c140W
Mr. Abse

asked the Minister of Health how many were on the lists waiting to receive hospital treatment within the Newport and East Monmouthshire area in 1961, 1962, and 1963; how many are waiting at present; how many on these waiting lists were awaiting gynaecological or obstetric attention in 1961, 1962, and 1963; how many are awaiting such treatment at present; and by what date these waiting lists will be substantially reduced.

Mr. Braine

5,210, 5,517 and 5,251 were awaiting in-patient treatment on 31st December 1961, 1962 and 1963; the figures at the 31st December, 1963 are the latest available; for gynaecology the figures were 1,426, 1,622 and 1,524 respectively; there is no waiting list for obstetrics; the waiting lists should be substantially reduced when the new obstetric and gynaecology unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport is completed, probably in 1965.
