AMENDMENT OF BUILDING REGULATIONS

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What procedure it is proposed to adopt to ensure that the new building regulations can be adjusted from year to year, without undue difficulty, in the light of modern advances in the science and technology of building and building materials.

The Public Health Act, 1961, as amended by The Transfer of Functions (Building Control) Order, 1964, requires the Minister of Public Building and Works, before making building regulations, to consult the Building Regulations Advisory Committee and such other bodies as appear to him to be representative of the interests concerned. In its recent Report the Committee recommended the regular annual amendment of the regulations, and my right honourable friend agrees that regular revision is desirable. My right honourable friend recognises the importance of ensuring in these revision that the regulations are kept in line with technological advances, both in building and in the manufacture of building materials.
