HC Deb 21 April 1964 vol 693 c149W
Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will state the accumulated surplus of the new towns over the period of construction.

Sir K. Joseph

The published accounts of the development corporations in England and Wales and of the Commission for the New Towns show an accumulated deficiency on revenue account of £2,638,577 at the end of March, 1963. I estimate that the deficiency had been reduced to approximately £2 million by the end of March this year.
