HC Deb 21 November 1963 vol 684 cc130-1W
68. Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister of Education in view of the problem of university staffing, to which the Robbins Report has drawn attention, what grants will be made available to graduates who wish to undertake training designed for potential university teachers.

Mr. Chataway

The needs of the universities, particularly in terms of potential university teachers, are taken into account when determining the number of post-graduate studentships to be made available each year. This year 459 State Studentships in the arts and social studies were awarded by my Department and the Scottish Education Department and 1,932 Studentships in science and technology by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
