HC Deb 20 November 1963 vol 684 c99W
71. Commander Kerans

asked the Postmaster-General what consultations he has had with the appropriate authorities regarding modernisation of telephonic and telegraphic communications for private travellers in trains.

Mr. Bevins

The Post Office first discussed with British Railways the possibility of providing public telephone communication with trains in 1957 and some limited tests were made in 1960. I intend to arrange for further study of the technical and economic feasibility of such a service when the new base stations for a radiophone service in the London area come into service in about a year's time.
