HC Deb 20 November 1963 vol 684 cc93-4W
58. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Transport what is the purpose of the broken double white lines at the entrance of roads or crossings in the North Kensington or Paddington area, as compared with single white lines; and whether such double white lines have been authorised by him.

Mr. Galbraith

In co-operation with the councils of the Royal Borough of Kensington and the County Borough of Croydon various types of transverse carriageway marking have been temporarily put down at a number of junctions in both boroughs. The object is to establish which type of marking is most easily observed so that we can select the one which will give the best indication to drivers that they are approaching a major road.
