HC Deb 28 March 1963 vol 674 c177W
72. Mrs. Braddock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the type of inquiry he has decided to have into the Durham Prison complaints is not considered sufficiently independent by those who desire to give evidence; and if he will reconsider the type of inquiry, and order a completely independent one on the lines of the Walton Prison Inquiry.

Mr. Brooke

No. My decision to refer this to the Visiting Committee under Rule 194 of the Prison Rules was taken after full consideration and with complete confidence in the Committee's independence.
