HC Deb 19 March 1963 vol 674 cc31-2W
56. Mr. Farey-Jones

asked the Secretary for Technical Co-operation whether his Department has yet been able to begin providing technical assistance to Latin-American countries; and what his plans are for expansion there.

Mr. Vosper

My noble Friend the Foreign Secretary and I are anxious to play an effective part in the provision of technical assistance to Latin-American countries, and the foundations have now been laid. So far we have established a mission to advise on tropical and subtropical agriculture in Bolivia, we have sent or are sending experts to Venezuela and Brazil; and are receiving trainees from Brazil and Argentina.

During the forthcoming financial year we are planning to operate on a substantially larger scale in an increasing number of Latin-American countries. The officer in charge of this work in my Department is at present on an extended tour of Latin-America in this connection.
