HC Deb 25 July 1963 vol 681 c211W
Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the United Kingdom has not maintained its relative share of world exports in the plastics and glass fibre industry; and, in view of the contribution made by the British plastics industry at the recent International Exhibition, what action he intends to take to increase exports.

Mr. Erroll

As new producing countries make progress in this field, the share of the world market held by the earlier producers—in this case, the United States and ourselves—tends to fall. Another factor is that a large part of our export trade is with countries where local manufacture is beginning. But our exports continue to increase and all the facilities provided by H.M. Government to help exporters are, of course, available to this industry.
