§ 76. Mr. N. Pannellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications he has received, other than by means of work vouchers, under the Commonwealth Immigrants Act, to take up residence in the United Kingdom; and how many he has refused.
§ Mr. BrookeCommonwealth citizens who are not coming to this country to take employment do not have to apply in advance for permission to enter, whether they desire to come as visitors or as residents. But they may, if they wish, apply to a post abroad for an entry certificate to facilitate their admission. 699 such applications were refused up to 31st March, 1963, the latest date for which this information is available. In addition, 246 persons were refused admission by immigration officers at United Kingdom ports up to 30th June, 1963.
