HC Deb 23 July 1963 vol 681 cc161-2W
Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Education how many primary and secondary schools are over 50 years old in the areas of Morpeth, Ashington and Newbiggin in the county of Northumberland.

Sir E. Boyle

I understand from the local education authority that they cannot give at short notice the number of schools over 50 years old, but that there are seven primary schools and two secondary schools in the area over 60 years old.

Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Education how many classes, in primary and secondary schools in Morpeth, Ashington, and Newbiggin, Northumberland, have 35 pupils or over.

Sir E. Boyle

85 classes in maintained primary and 32 classes in maintained secondary schools in this area had 36 or more pupils in January, 1963. The number of classes with 35 pupils is not readily ascertainable.
