HC Deb 18 July 1963 vol 681 cc101-2W
Sir B. Janner

asked the Minister of Education whether he is satisfied that the present methods of teaching mathematics in schools take sufficient account of the need for more realism to be employed; whether professors of mathematics have been consulted by him on this subject; and whether he will take action to improve the teaching of this subject.

Sir E. Boyle

H.M. Inspectors and my Department's Curriculum Study Group are in touch with the experimental work now being done by a number of agencies, including some universities, designed to improve the teaching of mathematics in schools. H.M. Inspectors are also helping to promote new approaches to the subject both in the advice they offer to the schools and through courses for mathematics teachers.
