HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 c58W
Sir Richard Pilkington

asked the Minister of Transport of the approximately 525 miles of dual carriageway constructed in England and Wales in the last five years, how much is entirely new construction and how much is due to adding an additional carriageway to an existing road, respectively; and whether the total includes or excludes motorways.

Mr. Marples

The 525 miles include 210 miles of motorways—all new construction—and 240 miles of trunk road of which 150 miles were new construction. The remaining 75 miles are classified roads. For these the detailed information asked for is not readily available.
