§ 15. Sir D. Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in view of the 52W fact that he investigated the action of the Crofters' Commission in permitting a certain allocation of crofts at West Murkle, if he will similarly inquire of the Commission why crofts Nos. 25, 26 and 28 at Upper Big house, with the approval of the Crofters' Commission, have been assigned to Mr. Bruce Douglas, who works with his father, Mr. George Douglas, who is tenant of the other Upper Bighouse crofts Nos. 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 27, together with six shares in the common pasture, when many shepherds and agricultural workers, who have been waiting for a croft, have been denied an opportunity of becoming crofters.
§ Mr. Brooman-WhiteThe function of deciding whether to give or withhold consent to applications from crofters who wish to assign their crofts rests with the Crofters Commission and my right hon. Friend has no power to intervene in individual cases. This applies to both the West Murkle and the Upper Bighouse crofts though in the case of the former, in terms of the Statute my right hon. Friend was, as proprietor, consulted by the Commission before it reached its decision.
