asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that one-third of the Causewaymire road in Caithness has been reconstructed in recent years; and why a grant to enable a further section to be reconstructed has been rejected on more than one occasion.

Reconstruction of the rest of this road has to compete with other demands on the funds available, and I cannot say when my right hon. Friend will be able to authorise the county council to go ahead with the next section.
